The group explores the island further, finding ancient silks and evidence the greatshell has been dead for millennia — the dilapidated town was built inside its carcass. They also find gnawed bones, but can't identify the predator.
A young Chasmfiend attacks. After a hard fight, Tas-son-Dar encases it in soil via Soulcasting. While restrained, the group locates the gemheart in a small cave, held in place by crem, and pries it free. They also find ancient Reshi ritual ink.
Returning to the Chasmfiend, Tas-son-Dar and Sha feed and calm it enough that Erytl Photrak joins in, and eventually Tas-son-Dar frees it. The creature follows them peacefully to their boat and — over Melu's protests — ends up in the hold.
Via Erytl Photrak's spanreed, Shallan warns that Mraize is moving toward the docks with Fala. The group lures him aboard and uses a lightweaving to swap Fala for Erytl Photrak. They also chip the gemheart to make it unusable for transporting Stormlight off-world. Mraize notices the chip, draws a glowing Aon — its lower portion depicting the Reshi Isles — tells them to run, and jumps overboard with the gemheart.
Jirani identifies it as an Aon that could destroy the entire island. She disrupts the Reshi Isles portion of the symbol and it fizzles harmlessly. The group finds a soulstamp and a jar of unkeyed Dor nearby — the power source. Fala, reunited with her necklace, gives Sha a medallion she stole from Mraize: a Scadrian Medal of Fortune.
The next day, the King of the Reshi Isles summons them under the pretense of discussing the dyes, but really demands their silence about the dead god's island. They agree, and he purchases the dyes.
